Nichigetsu (日月)

Two Rhythms · One Philosophy

日 and 月 — Day and Night. Two complementary forces, always in motion.

Nichi and Getsu share the same approach: respect for ingredients, clarity in preparation, and the choice to add nothing that isn't needed. What sits on the plate comes from careful restraint rather than excess.

That approach extends beyond the plate. It shapes how we work, how we source our ingredients, and how we think about what we use. Good craftsmanship takes time. Sustainability means making the most of every ingredient – and paying attention to every detail.

Inspired by the Edo-mae tradition. Rooted in Berlin. Two rhythms, one shared philosophy.

LUNCH

日 (Nichi) means the rhythm of a day. Clear, light, shaped by the freshness of the present moment.

At midday, Nichi is dedicated to sushi as everyday food. In Edo-period Tokyo, sushi wasn't reserved for special occasions. It was something people enjoyed on the go: in busy markets, along narrow streets, and by the riverside. Nichi draws inspiration from this original spirit of Edo-mae sushi.

Our menu focuses on two dishes: futomaki and bara chirashi, each prepared with seasonal ingredients.

Futomaki is a traditional Japanese nori roll that has been made since the Edo period. Different ingredients come together in a single roll, not to overpower, but to complement each other. That balance is at the heart of futomaki.

Bara chirashi takes its name from chirashi (ちらし), meaning “to scatter.” In Edomae sushi, it developed as a way to showcase the day's freshest ingredients in a simple way. Rather than following a fixed formula, it changes with the seasons and lets each ingredient speak for itself.

Our bara chirashi follows the same approach. We choose ingredients at their seasonal best and prepare them with restraint, allowing their natural character to come through without unnecessary processing or decoration. Each ingredient has its own place, creating a balanced whole whose flavours unfold gradually. We hope it offers a simple way to experience the season, even in the middle of an ordinary day.

DINNER

月 (Getsu) follows the rhythm of the evening. Slower, quieter, with flavours that deepen over time.

Nichi Getsu is located in a former industrial building on Rotherstraße in Friedrichshain. Once a lamp factory, the space still carries traces of its history. As the neighbourhood quiets down in the evening, the restaurant settles into a different pace.

Our evenings at Nichi Getsu are dedicated to the Edomae Nigiri Omakase.

Edomae sushi originated in 19th-century Edo (now Tokyo). It wasn't created as a special-occasion meal, but as food to be prepared and enjoyed immediately. Freshness, timing, and careful preparation were what mattered most.

Nigiri is served one piece at a time. The temperature of the rice, the texture of the fish, and the balance of seasoning are all considered so that each piece is enjoyed at its best. The aim is simple: to serve every nigiri at the moment it is ready to be eaten.

The counter is part of that experience. It offers a close view of the craft behind each piece and creates a direct connection between chef and guest, where the focus stays on the food rather than decoration.

The spirit of Edomae sushi meets the quiet night of Berlin. In the calm rooms of a former factory, we hope to present sushi in its most original and beautiful form.
