Futomaki
In many Japanese households, sushi wasn't an everyday meal. When someone had the chance to eat out, it was common to bring home a roll of futomaki to share with the family. The Chef Shiori remembers his father doing exactly that after work at a sushi restaurant. No special occasion — just opening the wrapping together and sharing what was inside.
A food brought home with someone in mind. Futomaki (太巻き), the thick sushi roll, originated in Osaka
during the Edo period. Several ingredients are rolled together, each cut and placed so they create a balance. The rice, seasoned with akazu, envelopes every ingredient, following the same principles of Edomae sushi.
That memory is why futomaki became the first item on the Nichi Getsu menu. Before dinner, we wanted to offer something simple to eat on the spot, take home, or share — our way of introducing ourselves to Berlin. Our futomaki is available to take away only.
Open the wrapping slowly. You'll notice the aroma first, then the flavours as they unfold. Eat it as soon as possible.

Barachirashi
Nichi is built around one dish.
Bara Chirashi: "scattered" delicacies.
Fresh, seasonal ingredients are arranged over sushi rice seasoned with akazu, a traditional red vinegar that adds gentle depth and brings the bowl together.
Chirashizushi has long been enjoyed throughout Japan, with each region developing its own style. During the Edo period, combining fish and vegetables with rice created a complete meal in a single bowl — simple, balanced, and humble.
Our Bara Chirashi follows this tradition through an Edomae approach, using seasonal ingredients, aged fish, and akazu-seasoned rice. Each ingredient is prepared individually and "scattered" creating an arrangement that changes with the seasons while remaining true to the same principles.
A small seasonal starter is served first, followed by the Bara Chirashi.

Edomae
Nigiri Omakase
Edomae (江戸前) literally means "in front of Edo," referring to the waters of present-day Tokyo Bay. During the Edo period, it described sushi made with fish caught there. Today, Edomae is defined less by geography than by technique.
Careful ageing, rice seasoned with akazu (red vinegar), and meticulous preparation are at the heart of Edomae sushi. While Berlin is far from Tokyo Bay, these methods can be practiced anywhere with the same care and attention.
Our omakase is served one piece at a time, beginning with delicate white fish before moving gradually toward richer flavours, shellfish, and finishing with tamagoyaki and a light soup.
Each fish is aged according to its own character — some for a day, others for several — to develop flavour and texture naturally. Every nigiri is shaped and served individually, with careful attention to the temperature of the rice, the balance between rice and fish, and the timing of each bite.
